The whole year in the Everest Base Camp area can be divided into four seasons:

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Spring:

Spring marks the end of the blistering winter and the transitional period to scorching summer. In the Everest Base Camp area, the season usually brings mild temperatures.

By May, the weather patterns tend to change as the monsoon slowly begins to approach.

From early March, the temperatures start to decrease from 15°C to -10°C. During this season, the wind speed tends to decline to around 14 km/hr. The sunshine hour is seven hours, with precipitation per month at 15 mm.

During this time of the year, there is a rare chance of rainfall. Thus, the humidity is also low, and the daytime temperature is warm. However, nights and mornings are still cold and chilly.

With pleasant weather conditions, comparatively moderate temperatures, and better visibility, this time is considered the best time for the Everest Base Camp Trek.

Everest Base Camp in March:

March is the starting month of the spring season. At the beginning of this month, the days are short, and the temperature starts to warm up.

At the end of this month, the lakes start melting, teahouses that were closed during the winter season are opened, and locals start returning to prepare for the peak season.

While the weather is better than January and February, there are still chances of occasional snowfall. Generally, the temperature is moderate at this time of the year, ranging from a maximum of 7°C in the daytime to a minimum of -12°C in the nights and mornings.

Everest Base Camp in April:

April is one of the best times to do the Everest Base Camp trek more conveniently. During this time of year, especially at the lower hills, the landscape looks more amazing with the blooming rhododendrons and other wildflowers.

During this month, you can get the clearest view of the exquisite Mt. Everest. The temperature is moderate, ranging from a maximum of 10°C in the daytime to a minimum of -5°C at night.

Everest Base Camp in May:

May is the end of the spring season. Days are still long, warm, and sunny. During this month, the temperature ranges from a maximum of 15°C in the daytime to a minimum of 0°C at night.

May is also the climbing month, so you’ll have the opportunity to meet climbers heading to the summit of Everest.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Monsoon

In Nepal, monsoon falls between June and August, and sometimes even up to mid-September.

During the rainy season, especially the lower parts of the trail get wet, muddy, and slippery. Due to the continuous downpour, the mountains are covered in cloud, fog, or mist.

For this reason, most trekkers don’t recommend Everest Base Camp trek during this season.

From early June, the temperatures start to increase from 17°C to 5°C.

During the monsoon time, the level of precipitation also increases in Everest Base Camp, reaching up to 190 mm.

The daily sunshine hours during this season are 5 hours, and the wind speed also tends to increase to 16 km/hr.

Everest Base Camp in June:

The weather in June marks the start of the rainy season, but actually, the rainy season starts from mid-June. Sometimes it doesn’t rain until mid-July. So, you can’t actually predict the weather in Nepal.

During this month, the temperature starts to increase and reaches a maximum of 16°C during the day and -1°C at night.

With a drastic decline in visitors, this month makes for a quieter and more peaceful trek.

Everest Base Camp in July:

July is another monsoon month, and it starts to get hotter than in June. The weather during this month is hot and humid.

The flow of tourists continues to decline, and if you prefer fewer crowds, then this is your month. And the views of the mountains are exceptional.

Temperatures in Everest Base Camp in July range from a maximum of 15°C during the day to 2°C at night.

Everest Base Camp in August:

August is the end of the monsoon season, but it is still the wettest period around the Everest Base Camp.

During this month, mountain views are also obscured due to fog and mist.

Temperatures continue to rise, up to a maximum of 16°C during the daytime. At night, the minimum temperature drops to around 2°C in the Everest Base Camp area.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Autumn:

Autumn is the start of the peak trekking season in Nepal, and thousands of people flood the Everest Base Camp trail during these months.

These months are also the driest months in Nepal, and weather conditions are favorable, neither too cold at higher elevations nor too hot at lower elevations.

Average temperatures may reach 15°C during these months, with a temperature range of a maximum of 20°C during the daytime to -10°C at night.

It is important to note that while it may be warm during the day, temperatures can drop to freezing levels as the sun goes down.

During this season, there is less chance of rainfall and no precipitation, and wind speed is also minimal at 14 km/hr, a good range for trekking in the Everest Base Camp area.

During this season, there are 7 hours of sunshine per day.

Everest Base Camp in September:

September marks the beginning of the autumn season, and with the end of the monsoon season, temperatures also start to decrease in the Everest Base Camp area.

At the beginning of this month, there is little chance of rainfall.

Days are warm, with a maximum temperature of 15°C, while mornings and nights may see temperatures drop to around 2°C.

By the end of the month, with the end of the monsoon season, there will be no clouds to block mountain views.

Everest Base Camp in October:

October is the best month of the three months in the autumn season. During this month, there is no chance of rainfall, fog, or clouds, so the visibility is amazing!

Trekking in Everest Base Camp during this month is perfect due to stable weather conditions. Temperatures are neither too cold at lower altitudes nor too hot at higher altitudes.

Temperatures range from a maximum of 12°C during the daytime to a minimum of -6°C at night.

Please be advised that in October, almost all tourist attractions, including Everest Base Camp, are overcrowded. Flight schedules are busy, and prices go up for some services.

Be prepared for larger crowds than normal if you choose to go to Everest Base Camp this month.

Everest Base Camp in November:

November is the final month of the autumn season. During this time, the days are sunny and bright, allowing you to enjoy the scenic views around Everest Base Camp.

The temperature during November ranges from a maximum of 6°C during the day to a minimum of -12°C at night.

Towards the end of the month, temperatures tend to decrease, making it a little cold, especially at night and at high altitudes. It is essential to be well-prepared with proper trekking gear, with the sleeping bag being the most important accessory during this month.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Winter:

Despite the cold weather, the views of the mountains and valleys during the day are impressive.

The winter season in the Everest Base Camp area is dry. During this season, the temperature at lower elevations is truly bearable, but there will be heavy snowfall at higher elevations.

The average temperature ranges from a maximum of 20°C during the day to -17°C at night.

Expect freezing temperatures during the nights and early mornings. Also, the wind speed tends to increase, up to 40 km/hr, making your Everest Base Camp trek even more challenging during these months.

The number of sunshine hours per day during this period is 7 hours.

The temperature during this period is colder, but the silver shine mountain peaks are often at their best.

Also, you’ll have plenty of space along the trails and in the tea houses as well.

Everest Base Camp in December:

December marks the beginning of the winter season. In this month, temperatures drop below freezing point, especially at night in the Everest Base Camp area.

The temperature in the Everest Base Camp area during December ranges from 4°C during the day to -14°C at night.

During this month, there are a few sunny and clear days in comparison to February. Due to the foggy and cloudy weather, you may not get clear views of the snow-capped mountains.

Everest Base Camp in January:

Winter is in full swing in January. The skies are blue, and the views of the landscape and mountains are breathtaking.

Temperatures in Everest Base Camp during January are cold, ranging from a maximum of 4°C during the day to a minimum of -17°C at night.

Temperatures during the nights and early mornings get below freezing.

Everest Base Camp in February:

February is the end of the winter season in Nepal. During this time of year, the temperature is warm at Everest Base Camp area.

The temperature during February ranges from a maximum of 4°C during the day to -15°C at night. At night, the temperature can drop below zero degrees.

The lower elevations are mild and more humid, allowing for comfortable walking on the trail with moderate temperatures during trekking time.

Towards the end of the month, the days are more sunny, bright, and clear, increasing visibility. There will be a high chance of getting jaw-dropping views of the snow-peak mountains.

Final Thoughts:

The weather at Everest Base Camp is notoriously unpredictable, but this simply adds to the fascination of the region.

There is no “off-season” for the Everest Base Camp trek. The best time to visit can be said to be any time.
