Gokyo Lake Trek
1490

Overview

Hiding high up in the mighty Himalayas, there is a system of fresh water lakes known as the Gokyo lakes, they are immensely sacred and hold important significance in the Hindu and Buddhist religions. Trekking in this area rewards you with beautiful views of the mountain peaks and the Ngozumpa Glacier- one of the largest in the world and also guarantees the most remarkable views of some of the infamous “eight-thousanders” including Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar and Makalu, which are clearly visible from Gokyo Ri (5360m.) An unforgettable moment on this route is the view of the spectacular ice point between Cho Oyu (8201m) and Gyachung Kang (7952m) in the Khumbu region.

Gokyo Lake Trek starts with a breath taking flight between the mountains to Tenzing/Hillary airport at Lukla and then follows the Everest Base Camp route for some time before leaving the other trekkers behind and heading out to the Gokyo Valley. There are many challenging aspects to this route as we walk through Sherpa land where the Buddhist religion dominates, Buddhist prayer flags adorn huge suspension bridges and we will pass mani stone walls and chortens, Buddhist memorial sites, as we go. We aspire to reach Gokyo Ri and the the world’s highest fresh water lake system, an amazing route in a beautiful region where the hustle and bustle of modern society is nowhere to be seen.

  1. Gokyo Lake Trek
I wanted to write you a note thanking you, your team and especially Ramesh for the quality of our Gokyo Lake Trekking trip and the professionalism you treated us with. Yvonne and I have done several similar trips together and I can easily say that your organization was the best we have dealt with. In particular, I deeply appreciated the way Ramesh and you helped me once I got sick -- it was above and beyond the normal service levels. I am recovering quickly and Yvonne and I are already discussing possible future adventures.
