Mera Peak; the paramount Nepalese trekking peak that gives you the opportunity to glimpse over four of the world’s highest mountains. Mera Peak is the highest trekking peak in Nepal but you don’t need any mountaineering experience to conquer it. All you need for this challenging but rewarding climbing trip is a good level of physical fitness and an extrovert sense of adventure – the experienced and respected Sherpa of Mosaic Adventure team will do the rest! Required equipment like crampons, ice axe, rope etc are provided, while our dedicated team will fix the ropes for you wherever required.
Classified as a trekking peak at 6,476 meters (21,247 ft), Mera peak is a mountain that lies in the Himalayas, specifically in the Sagarmatha region of Nepal. Hiking above the popular trails to Everest Base Camp, this trip leads us to the sparsely inhabited Hinku Valley. As you trek through the beautiful high alpine surroundings, Mera peak can be seen soaring over the valley in all its glory. Dominating the skyline above the wide and thickly forested valley, Mera peak rises to the south of Everest, showcasing five of the world’s highest mountains – Everest, Kanchenjunga, Amadablam, Baruntse and Makalu.
With the guidance of one of the world’s most experienced, reliable and well-trained team, this Mosaic adventure will be one not to be forgotten. Join us on this epic journey into the clouds, to stand amongst the mountain giants of the Himalayas.
A Mosaic Adventure representative will be waiting for you with a Mosaic Adventure sign at the airport exit, which is after the immigration desk and luggage claim.. Please look for the signage thoroughly as it will certainly be one of many! The representative will then transfer you to your hotel and let you know the meeting time for next day and answer any queries you may have. Then you’re free for the rest of the day. Overnight at hotel.
We will meet for the trip briefing, collect balance payment if there is any, then with our experienced tour guide you will start your adventure. Kathmandu heritage day tour includes a visit to 4 popular places in Kathmandu valley – Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swyambhunath, and Durbar square of Patan. You will be back at your hotel around 4.30 pm. Overnight at hotel.
Today we start early in the morning to catch a flight to Lukla. Your guide will meet you at the hotel, transfer you to the airport, and board you on a plane to Lukla. Once you reach there you will meet porters and begin the journey. Today you will be walking for approximately 3.5 hours through small settlements, forests with juniper trees and some rhododendrons (depending on the season). Overnight in teahouse (basic mountain lodge).
On our approximately 6 hour trek, we start with the ascent to Zatrawa La followed by the ‘Nepali Flat’ walk for an hour or so before the descent to Zatrabok. Today you will start seeing various Himalayan peaks.. Overnight in teahouse.
Carrying on from Zatrabok, our trail today will descend all the way to Kothe, and feature superb views of the Himalayas as well as some lush green scenery. We trek for approximately 5.5 hours. Overnight in teahouse.
The trail continues gradually up along the river bank, through a forest, then into a valley. Again you will be able to see various Himalayan peaks including Kushum Kangaru. We walk for approximately 5 hours from Kothe to Thangnak. Overnight in teahouse.
After walking for approximately one and half hours, passing parallel ridges of debris deposited along the sides of a Dig glacier, we take a detour to Sabai Tsho (Lake Sabai) glacial lake. Walking more slowly today so as to enjoy the surrounding views, we will exceed 5000 meters for the first time on this trip, and be able to see Mera Peak’s northern face. In total, we will walk for around 6 hours. Overnight in teahouse.
Today we will take a rest before going on any further. You can walk around this beautiful area while your guide trains you for your glacial walk. Overnight in teahouse.
We will be going up slowly in order to acclimatize properly on this increasing altitude. When we reach base camp you will get basic training from our guide. Approximately 3.5 hours walk. Overnight in tented camp.
We slowly ascend further to High camp where we’llprepare for a big adventure the following day. You will be able to see awe-inspiring Himalayan views, and be able to see the route that we will be taking all the way to the top of Mera. Approximately 2.5 hours walk. Overnight in tented camp.
The climb to the summit of Mera starts gradually in the early morning around 3 am. The central summit will soon appear above the head of a wide glacier flanked by two ridges. We climb to the centre of this over open snowfields while avoiding crevasses. The route then swings south east, skirting below and to the east of the left hand ridge before turning back to the right towards the main summit ridge of Mera. Mera actually has three summits; the highest is our objective. We reach this by following a classic snow ridge until just below the final wall that guards the top. This short steep snow slope is easily climbed but there is a big effort required to climb the last 50 meters. Your reward, however, is a feeling of ecstatic jubilation as you survey the magnificent panorama from the top. After taking pictures and enjoying the view, we descend by the same route back to our campsite below the Mera La and on to Khare. Overnight in teahouse.
This is a spare day to allow for bad weather or additional summit attempts.
We retrace our track to Kothe, descending first to Thagnak before continuing to Kothe. Overnight in teahouse.
Leaving Kothe, we follow the stream down towards the Hinku river before ascending to Tattor and to Zatrabok through a thick pine forest. Overnight in teahouse.
From Zatrabok we ascend toward Zatrawa La pass then further ascend towards Chuthanga. Overnight in teahouse.
Another ascent to Lukla where finish our journey. Evening spent celebrating our victory when we reach Lukla. Overnight in teahouse.
We board the flight through the mountains back to the capital. Overnight at hotel.
You can use this day to relax and rejuvenate after your expedition. Explore the shops, visit a spa or do some more sightseeing around the bustling Kathmandu streets. Overnight at hotel.
