Short ABC Trek FAQs

How and where can I meet the Mosaic Team?

On the first day of the trek, we will pick you up free of charge from your hotel in the Lakeside area of Pokhara. After you book your trek, we will ask for your hotel details.

How physically fit do I need to be?

The Annapurna Base Camp trek is considered a moderate trek in Nepal. It includes some long days and steep climbs. You don’t need any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. You should be in good physical condition and able to walk for four to six hours per day over hilly terrain with a light backpack. If you’re not an experienced trekker or don’t exercise regularly, we recommend starting a training program well before the trip. You’ll have plenty of rest time during the trek, and we’ll go at a slow pace to help you adjust to the increasing elevation.

What is the accommodation like?

You’ll be staying in teahouses, which are basic but clean and welcoming resting places after a day of trekking. Accommodation is limited, especially at higher altitudes, so you may stay in a twin/double room or a bed in a dormitory. The bed mattresses are usually firm, and there are shared shower and toilet facilities. The dining halls in the teahouses offer limited meal choices.

Is there enough drinking water available? How much water should I carry in my daypack?

We recommend that you bring water purification tablets and a water bottle with you. Mosaic supports responsible tourism, so we don’t encourage buying bottled water in the Himalayan region since there’s no proper disposal system for plastic bottles. You can fill your water bottle along the way since there’s plenty of water available, and most brands of purification tablets take just 30 minutes to make the water safe to drink. We recommend drinking at least 3 to 4 liters of water per day while trekking.

Where can I store my luggage?

You can keep any luggage you won’t need during the trek securely at your hotel in Pokhara.

Do I need to bring walking poles?

Walking poles are not necessary but they can be helpful when going downhill and on steep climbs. You can buy them in Pokhara and they can be easily attached to your backpack when not in use.

Can I buy equipment in Kathmandu or Pokhara?

Yes, there are many trekking shops that sell equipment at a lower price than at developed countries. However, the quality may not always be guaranteed. It is recommended to buy major items like trekking shoes before arriving in Nepal.

Can I recharge my electronic devices while on the mountain?

Yes, you can recharge your devices in the teahouses, but make sure to bring adapters as the plugs may be different. Some teahouses may charge a fee for electricity.

Can I take showers during the trek?

Showers are available at the teahouses, but they may be shared and you will have to pay for hot water. As you go higher, it may get colder and you may not want to shower as often.

How much money should I bring per day?

The amount of money you will need depends on your spending habits. $10 per day is a rough estimate for extra drinks.

What should I carry with me on the trek?

You will need to bring a backpack that is big enough for your personal gear, water, camera, snacks, sunscreen, and hat. If you want to hire a porter, they can carry up to 20kg of weight for two people.

What if I get sick during the trek?

If you get sick, you will usually descend to a lower altitude. If you are seriously ill, an emergency helicopter evacuation service can be arranged. It is important to have travel insurance that covers high altitude trekking and emergency services. Altitude sickness is a real concern, so familiarize yourself with the symptoms and inform your guide immediately if you experience any. Guides carry basic medicine and first aid equipment.

  1. ABC Trek with Purna
By David Wilson April 6, 2024
Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) over 5 days was truly amazing, thanks to our guide Purna. His support was invaluable, especially when I struggled with altitude sickness. Purna's encouragement kept me going and his care ensured our safety and well being throughout the journey. We met friendly locals and stayed in cozy lodges along the way. Purna not only led us but also organized our meals, checked on our health and shared his love for Nepal's mountains. With Purna's guidance, reaching ABC felt like an achievable feat. I highly recommend him as a guide for anyone planning this trek.
  2. Short trek to ABC
    By John V Houten March 7, 2024
My girlfriend and I booked a short trek to ABC. The trek was beautiful, passing through various villages and lodging in local teahouses. Our guide Rudra, excelled in accompanying us and sharing ample information regarding the trip, as well as personal insights that helped me understand the people, culture and religion of Nepal. I highly recommend both the trek and the guide, along with Mosaic Adventure.
  3. Wonderful 5 day trek to Annapurna Base Camp
By Paula Cecilia March 4, 2024
We just finished a wonderful 5 day trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Mosaic Adventure. Rudra was our guide and Ram carried our gear. Rudra kept us safe and taught us a lot about the country. He knows a ton about trekking. We were lucky to have him as our guide. The trek with Rudra and Ram was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
  4. Trekking with Ramesh was great
By Gentina Tabaku December 16, 2023
This was our third time visiting Nepal. In our past trips, we went on treks to Poon Hill and Mardi Himal. This time, we chose to trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Mosaic Adventure, guided by Ramesh, who we've trekked with before. Like before, trekking with Ramesh was great and we had a wonderful time with him. Madhav and Ramesh always took good care of us, sharing interesting things about Nepal and its people. We really recommend them!
  5. Great Trek with Lovely People
By Matt Bell November 20, 2023
We booked this 5 days trek to ABC with Mosaic Adventure based on their glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. True to expectations, here I am with a 5 stars review for them. We met Madhav in Kathmandu to get some idea about the trek before heading to Pokhara and he really helped us plan everything, including taking us to his recommended shop to purchase a few items we needed for the trek. We met Pralhad at the hotel in Pokhara on Day 1 and he was with us throughout our 5 day journey to ABC and back. Pralhad was a great guide to be with on such a trek. We thoroughly enjoyed it and we have decided to come for another trek with Mosaic and Pralhad as our guide. Highly recommended trek, Mosaic Adventure and Pralhad.
  6. 5 days Annapurna Base Camp trek
By Betsy Hanson November 3, 2023
3 of us had a fantastic 5 days trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Mosaic Adventure! Everything was very professionally organized and delivered to give us exactly the right balance between adventure and relaxation. Madan the guide and Shiva the porter, were both fun to travel with and looked after us very well. Madan was the key person, ensuring schedules worked, transportation was on time, we got good rooms at teahouses and ate well to maintain energy for long walks. It was a pleasure to get to know Madan, Shiva and Madhav in the office, and we look forward to our next trek with them soon.
  7. Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek
By John Milne October 3, 2023
We did a shorter version of ABC trek. While may find many longer trips to ABC, this one is short yet properly acclimatized. As we are limited by time and want to reach ABC, this short ABC trek by Mosaic Adventure perfectly met our requirements. Don't forget to ask for Buddha as your guide for a wonderful experience. Highly recommended trek for splendid views and a lifetime experience.
