In the main trekking seasons of autumn and spring, the temperature usually ranges from about 0 to 5 degrees Celsius. During winter it can drop below freezing and may reach as low as minus 5 to minus 10 degrees. Because the viewpoint is higher and often windy, it is important to wear warm layers, a down jacket, gloves and a hat. Good footwear also makes the early morning walk more comfortable.
Travel insurance is not compulsory for this trek, but it is strongly recommended. The Poon Hill route is considered easy to moderate in difficulty, but unexpected situations can still happen. Most trekkers complete the trek without any major problems, but being insured ensures you are well prepared.

Spring brings blooming rhododendron forests, while autumn provides crisp air and long, bright days. The Poon Hill Trek is considered an easy to moderate trek and is suitable for beginners, families and travelers with a basic level of fitness. The steep climb to Ulleri is the most challenging part, but it becomes manageable with steady pacing. The rest of the route follows well-marked paths through villages and forests. Most days involve four to six hours of walking, and the highest point is 3,210 meters, which keeps the risk of altitude sickness low. Our experienced guides adjust the pace according to your comfort, making the trek enjoyable for first-time hikers as well as experienced trekkers.

In the second month, include longer walks on weekends and practice on hills or stairs to strengthen your legs. Exercises like squats, lunges and step-ups are helpful. In the final month, continue your routine and carry a small backpack to get used to moving with light weight. Gentle stretching and staying active will help your body adjust and make the trek more comfortable.
Tips for first-time trekkers
Poon Hill is an excellent choice for first-time trekkers because the trail is well maintained and the daily walking hours are manageable. Taking a steady pace and enjoying short breaks when needed makes the journey more pleasant. Staying hydrated throughout the day is important, and keeping a warm layer or rain jacket handy is helpful due to changing mountain weather. Wearing trekking shoes that you have already broken in will prevent discomfort. Listening to your guide’s advice and sharing any concerns helps ensure a smooth and safe experience. Most first-time hikers find the trek easier than expected and enjoy the friendly atmosphere in the villages and teahouses along the way.

- Verified Purchase By Birgit F April 6, 2025 Highlight of My Nepal TripMy friend and I did the Poon Hill trek at the end of March and this 4 day journey turned out to be the highlight of our entire Nepal trip. We started with a drive from Pokhara to Hile, then trekked to Ulleri and continued to Ghorepani. When we reached Ghorepani, I really wanted to hike up to Poon Hill for the sunset. It had been a long day, so the other trekkers chose to rest, but our guide Rudra kindly agreed to go with me. We ended up visiting Poon Hill twice, once for sunset and again the next morning with the group for sunrise. The views were incredible both times, but I especially loved the peaceful sunset when it was quiet and still. Our guide Rudra was patient, flexible and incredibly helpful throughout the trek. Everything was well organized, and we had a great time with the other travelers in our group. I would definitely do this trek again. It was an unforgettable experience.
- Verified Purchase By Ricci Khoi April 4, 2025 Perfect short Himalayan trekPoon Hill trek was the perfect short Himalayan adventure. We booked the trek through Madhav at the office and everything went smoothly. He helped customize the itinerary based on our fitness and time. Our guide Rudra was experienced and really looked after us throughout the hike. Our porter Jayan was always ahead of us, somehow reaching every teahouse before we did with all our bags! We started from Hile and made our way up to Ulleri ... yes, the 3000+ stone steps were tough, but we took it slow. The second day to Ghorepani was more relaxed and the views started opening up. Ghorepani itself was chilly, but waking up early for the sunrise hike to Poon Hill was totally worth it. Watching the sunrise over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna was a moment we won’t forget. After that, the trail to Tadapani and then down to Ghandruk was beautiful, passing through blooming rhododendron forests. Ghandruk was a lovely Gurung village and a great place to end our trek. It’s a relatively easy trek with amazing views and great for people looking for a 4-day option from Pokhara. Big thanks again to Rudra, Jayan and Madhav. This trip was everything we hoped for, well organized and full of memories.
- Verified Purchase By Jake M April 3, 2025 Perfect short Himalayan getawayDid Poon Hill over a weekend and it was a blast. The mountains looked amazing, especially at sunrise from Poon Hill. Our guide, Buddha, was laid back and let us take our time. The food at the teahouses was decent! It’s not a crazy tough trek, so it’s great if you’re just dipping your toes into hiking. Just pack warm stuff for the mornings and evenings; it was chilly, especially at Ghorepani.
- Verified Purchase By Flora Y April 1, 2025 Beautiful Poon Hill Trek with Mosaic AdventureDid the Poon Hill trek in Nepal with Mosaic Adventure and had such a great time! Everything was smooth from start to finish. Well planned route, cozy teahouses and amazing views every day. Our guide, Pralhad, was the best! Super friendly, knowledgeable and always made sure the group was doing well. It really felt like hiking with a friend who knew everything about the area. The Poon Hill sunrise was a real highlight, worth the early wake-up! Would definitely recommend Mosaic Adventure for anyone looking to experience trekking in Nepal. Big thanks to Pralhad and the team!
- Verified Purchase By Priya Kumar March 30, 2025 Short Trek, Big RewardsThe Poon Hill trek was a fun 4 day trip exploring the Annapurna region for a short time. The sunrise from the top of Poon Hill was magical and the highlight of the whole trek. The trek itself can be a little demanding at times but is pretty easy if you are reasonably fit. I wasn't in great shape, so my legs were still sore from the steps. Our guide, Rudra, kept us laughing the whole time. Overall, I loved it!
- Verified Purchase By Mark T March 19, 2025 Pretty ViewsI really liked this 4-day trek to Poon Hill. The forests with their colorful flowers were gorgeous and the views at the top were next level. It’s not super hard, but those Ulleri stairs had me sweating! Our guide, Rurda, was great, though I wish we had stopped more to relax in the villages. The teahouses were basic (don’t expect luxury), but they were good enough. Oh, and it rained one day, which was a bummer, but overall, it was still a solid trip.
- Verified Purchase By Sarah J March 15, 2025 Totally worth the early morning sunrise trip!Poon Hill was awesome! That sunrise view of the Annapurna mountains was unreal... seriously worth dragging myself out of bed at 4:30 a.m! The trek itself wasn’t too bad, perfect for someone like me who’s not a pro hiker. The teahouses were basic but comfortable. The only thing was that it got a bit crowded at the top, but I’d still tell anyone to go for it!
- Verified Purchase By Kerri M January 15, 2025 Perfect trek for usIf you're a nature and mountain lover, this trek is perfect for you! Each day offered stunning new landscapes that kept us in awe. The team was professional and took care of everything, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. Altitude wasn’t an issue, and the views from the top of Poon Hill were absolutely breathtaking. Watching the sunrise from Poon Hill, surrounded by incredible mountain peaks, is a memory I’ll cherish forever. It was a fantastic 4-day trek where every moment was well spent. Huge thanks to Madhav from the office and our guide Rudra, for making this such an unforgettable journey!
- Verified Purchase By Yun Sir C December 8, 2024 Incredible experience of trekking to Poon HillI recently had the incredible experience of trekking to Poon Hill in the Himalayas with Ramesh as our guide, and I can honestly say he exceeded all expectations. From the moment we began, Ramesh’s expertise, professionalism, and calm, reassuring demeanor made our journey seamless and thoroughly enjoyable. As a group of three girls, we initially felt a bit uncertain about tackling the trails, but Ramesh quickly earned our trust. His thoughtful approach to every detail—from arranging accommodations to setting a pace that suited everyone—made us feel safe and well cared for at every step. What truly set Ramesh apart was his deep knowledge of the region and his genuine caring for the locals. He brought the trek to life in a way that was both educational and inspiring. Ramesh isn’t just a guide; he’s a mentor on the trail, a problem-solver, and a friend who genuinely cares about his clients. If you’re planning a Himalayan trek and want a guide who combines skill, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to your safety and enjoyment, Ramesh is the one. Our adventure wouldn’t have been the same without him, and I can’t recommend him highly enough! We hope to travel with him in the future also!

Our guide, Rudra, and our porter, Ram, were incredible, and made sure that absolutely everything was taken care of - even finding buckwheat flour to bring on the trip so that my mum with coeliac disease (gluten free) could have breakfast options! Accomodation and food was all organised, and we were very happy with it. Rudra tailored the days to our pace, and helped us get to the summit for sunrise. The trek is absolutely stunning, incredible scenry the whole way along. It has some challenging days with lots of stairs, but well worth it. We feel very happy to have booked Mosaic Adventures, and would highly reccomend them to anyone looking to do trekking in Nepal. Thank you for everything!

- Verified Purchase By Adele K February 26, 2024 Poon Hill TrekMy friends and I planned a trip to Nepal and decided on an easy trek for our first time there. After researching, we settled on Poon Hill. We reached out to several trekking companies found on Tripadvisor and Madhav from Mosaic Adventure stood out with his prompt and detailed responses. After chatting with him on whatsapp, we felt confident and booked our trip. During our 4 days Poon Hill trek, Manoj the guide and our porters Buddi & Shiba, took great care of us, patiently accompanying us at our own pace. Despite Poon Hill being considered easy, the long, steep slopes presented challenges. We couldn't have done it without their help. I highly recommend Mosaic Adventure to anyone planning a trek in Nepal.

- Verified Purchase By George Luis January 13, 2024 Great View from Poon HillWe were a bit short on time, so our family did the Poon Hill trek in 3 nights/4 days. We looped clockwise, starting from Nayapul and ending at the same place after walking through different villages like Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, Ghorepani, Tadapani and Ghandruk. We booked our tour online through Mosaic Adventure for guided service and also added 2 porters for our family of 5. It made our experience hassle free and we were happy to have their company on the trek. Scenery was great, the weather terrific with great views in the morning when we climbed to Poon Hill. As a reasonably fit person, I found some parts of the trail challenging, even though this trek is graded as easy. Hire a porter if you can, they need the work and you will enjoy it more as well. They are very affordable. Overall, it was a good trip with good arrangements by Mosaic and their guide, Madan.

- Verified Purchase By Audrey Wu November 12, 2023 Breathtaking views!Poon Hill is the best destination for those who have short holidays. It offers great views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machapuchre mountains, as well as beautiful landscapes and opportunities to learn more about Gurung culture. Four days are enough for this trek. I found that it is one of the best places in Nepal to get good views of mountains. Leaving Ghorepani early in the morning to climb the hill for sunrise can be a bit tiring, but it is worth the hard work. On top of Poon Hill, there are small shops selling hot drinks, albeit a bit expensive, but enjoy them with the views. The trek is great, and our guide Rudra made it even better with his company. Nice logistics arrangements by Mosaic guys, overall, a great trip worth the money spent.

- Verified Purchase By Jennie Chalmers February 2, 2018 Happy to recommendWe have had a fantastic and memorable trek. Pravin was an excellent guide and managed our days so well , with lots of extra information, care and thoughtfulness - and even fresh fruit in the evenings. And he had excellent knowledge and advice, for example suggesting crampons; they were invaluable on the 3rd day (Trekked in February). Ramen and Suraj were also so helpful and all were great company. We had an excellent day with Keshar, seeing many sights and discovering much about the culture and history of Nepal and Kathmandu. He was very good at recognising what we wanted to see and learn about so the tour really suited us and, with just the one full day in Kathmandu before we set off to Pokhara, it was a fantastic introduction and great use of our limited time. Keshar was very knowledgeable, his English excellent and it was a great, full day. Thank you very much for accommodating us so well - it has been a very special, memorable trip. We will be happy to recommend Mosaic to others as all has been so well managed.

- Verified Purchase By Regina Guzman August 8, 2014 Best company to travel withMosaic is the best company to travel with!! My mom and I traveled to Nepal in Nov 2013 and doing a trek was a must. I contacted Mosaic tours after reading the great reviews and from the minute my communication with them began, I knew I was in great hands. Madhav was wondereful to work with and helped me arrange the best tour for my mom and I's needs. He always responded quickly to my emails and was patient as I worked my way thru deciding what trek was the best option. My first impression of Madhav and the company was one of professionalism and experience, and that impression was only further solidified during our trip. I booked a 21-day trip, including a trek, and a week in Tibet, and Mosaic's services and customer relations continually exceeded my expectations! They were helpful every step of the way, making sure we had the best experience and ensuring we always felt safe and well-prepared for our journey(s). Our trek guide, Pralhad, was awesome and made our trek so much fun! He had the best attitude and while also being extremely professional, was friendly and welcoming. Our overall experience in Nepal and on our trek would not have been the same without him, and I can't imagine having done this trip with a better company. They were excellent on every level and I highly, highly recommend them- no doubt they will help you arrange the trip of a lifetime!!
- Verified Purchase By Elana Findlow April 16, 2014 Professional, caring, fairly priced companyFrom the first email, Mosaic Adventure Trek and Tour was a positive experience. In fact, I can truly say that we never experienced such a high level of service in our lives. I travel between 120,000-150,000 miles around the world every year using the services of many foreign travel companies and staying at every possible class of hotel. The professionalism and kindness of the office staff and of both our guide and porter blew me away because it was better than superb! Madhav answered every email inquiry quickly and thoroughly and took care of every detail of coordinating our trip. Mosaic was responsible for organizing our trek, six transfers, two internal flights, and one city tour of Kathmandu. On our incoming international flight to Kathmandu, our plane was diverted to New Delhi because of fog. I knew that we would miss our domestic flight to Pokhara, but there was no need to worry because Madhav changed our flight while we were still circling over Nepal. Madhav had rebooked us on the last flight of the day which was completely filled-up likely due to the cancellation of the mid-day flight. I am not sure of how Madhav got us onto the flight, but he did! We were relieved to learn that he was watching our flight status and took every action to make sure our trip would proceed as planned. Mosaic picked us up at the international terminal and brought us to the domestic terminal for our flight to Pokhara. In between, we got the sleeping bag he had brought for me and we decided we would not need the down jackets he had also brought. We arrived in Pokhara, and again were met by an agent for Mosaic who took us to our hotel. Two days later, we embarked on a five day trek to Ulleri, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Tadapani, and Ghandruk with incredible Keshar as our guide and amazing Susil as our porter. Wow! Keshar is not only highly educated and knowledgable about Nepal's history and culture, but, he is also a kind, sensitive, and wonderful human being. He was highly respected and liked by all of the local village people and tourists throughout the trek. Keshar watched out for every detail of our trek. Susil was a gem of a person and provided the absolute best possible service; he always came to help us pack up, always had a smile on his face, was gentle and kind. Susil is also adorable!!! At the end of each day's trek, Susil would trek ahead of us to get to the tea house to secure the best possible room in advance of our arrival. Then, he would trek back to us and take our daypacks. On several occasions, the trail got slippery and a little bit scary from excessive mud, snow, or ice and Susil came to rescue me by literally holding my hand and safely leading the way. Susil took our meal orders, prepared a fresh fruit platter every evening after dinner with fruit that was purchased at the local market before the trek and carried by him just for us, and was virtually at our beck and call. Keshar made sure that every detail of the trek, rooms, meals, and everything was seamless and perfect. Honestly, I have never seen such genuine attention to detail; we were spoiled beyond our expectations. Keshar and Susil are passionate about their jobs and truly devoted to making their guests' trips the best possible experience of a lifetime. They did not even go to bed until they knew that we were settled into our room for the night. We did spend another day in Pokhara, and then flew back to Kathmandu. We were very lucky to have Keshar as our guide for our pre-arranged tour of Kathmandu. His depth of knowledge was exceptional. If you are planning to request Keshar and Susil for your own trek, you may find they are unavailable in early 2015 because I am booking them, again, for my family!!!! I will say, once again, that Mosaic Tours is the best tour company I have ever dealt with anywhere ever. Do not hesitate to book a tour with them as you will be dealing with the most professional, caring, fairly priced company.

- Verified Purchase By Jed Tai October 10, 2011 Extremely knowledgeable and friendlyMy wife, mother, friend and I went to Nepal for 10 days in early October 11, for 2 days city tour in Katmandu/Pokara and the Poon Hill Trek (4-5 days). It was our first trip to Nepal in an planning for the trip we had a lot of questions - are tour companies reliable? Is there insurance not only for us but for guides and porters? Are internal flights safe? After the trip, I can some up my experiences in the fullowing bullet points: -Trekking in Nepal was the best walking experience ever and I have been to NZ, Aust, Europe and the US/Canada -You pay for what you get. There are many tour companies, making it hard to differentiate quality from a distance. Mosaic was absolutely fantastic in every area. Details were clear. Everyone was extremely knowledgable and friendly. Out group were and are friends. Accomodations were top class, better than other people I talked to on the trails. Finally, they treat their staff right - all porters and guide had comprehensive insurance and strict carry-weight limits. FYI - there have been instances where porter-related accidents on the trails revealed that no insurance had been taken out for them - meaning the whole cost would fall on the guests hiring them. In addition, it is a real shame to see porters on the trails staggering under 35+kg of luggage becuase cost cutting tour agences hired 2 guides when guests paid for 3 pocketing the cash difference. -Email communication was top-notch and professional. Comprehensive answers were given less than 24 hours after sending. Prices were fair - in the lower to middle range of the companies available, with service throughout absolutely in the higest range. I hope that this review was useful. I will be back next year in the spring for the Langtang trek, and will use Mosaic again for sure. Jed
