Sankhu Nagarkot Day Hike

1 Days

For those who don’t have the time to hike for several days in Nepal, this Sankhu Nagarkot Day hike is for you.

Your day will start with our guide picking you up at your hotel at 9 am before driving you for five hours to the medieval Newari village of Sankhu.

Here you’ll visit the famous pilgrimage site of the Vajrajogini temple, and soak up the atmosphere of an ancient Nepalese village.

The trek itself will last for around four hours and take you through forests and more Nepali villages until you arrive at the breathtaking summit of Nagarkot.

Our family of four (two teens aged 13 and 16) did the Sankhu to Nagarkot hike with Mosaic Adventure and had a fantastic time. We wanted something outdoorsy but manageable for everyone and this hike hit the mark. Our guide Keshar picked us up from the hotel and from the moment we left Kathmandu, everything was well-organized. The kids loved exploring the old village of Sankhu and hearing stories about the temple. The hike was a bit tiring, but with regular breaks and beautiful scenery, we all managed it comfortably. Nagarkot was a stunning spot to end the hike. We had some snacks and just sat enjoying the view. It was nice to do something active as a family and be away from the city noise for a while. Would highly recommend this to other families visiting Nepal!

I was looking for a short hiking experience during my trip to Nepal, and the Sankhu to Nagarkot day hike was just perfect. The day began smoothly, with the guide picking me up from my hotel right on time. The drive to Sankhu gave me a glimpse of life outside the city. We visited the Vajrajogini Temple, which was very peaceful and offered a real sense of history. The actual hike was moderate, not too hard, but definitely a workout for someone like me who isn’t used to trekking. We passed small villages and green forests, and I loved seeing the local life along the way. When we reached Nagarkot, the view of the Himalayas was absolutely worth it. I was lucky to get a clear day and even caught some distant Himalayan views! Our guide, Pralhad, was very friendly and helpful throughout. I highly recommend this to anyone short on time but still wanting a taste of Nepal’s natural beauty.

I did the Sankhu Nagarkot day hike as a solo traveler and it was one of the highlights of my trip. What stood out most was the balance of cultural experience and nature. Walking through the village of Sankhu and visiting the local temple gave me insight into local traditions and daily life. The hike itself was well paced. We passed terraced fields, pine forests and hillside settlements, all while having great conversations with the guide, who was knowledgeable and warm. He even helped me take some great photos. A fantastic option if you want to experience Nepal beyond Kathmandu in just a day.
