Kalinchowk Trek

Kalinchowk Trek

Kalinchowk trek is a short religious trek to the Kalinchowk Bhagwati temple. It is about 149 km away from Kathmandu to the north-eastern side of Nepal.

Kalinchowk is in the Dolakha district of Nepal and the Bhagwati Mandir is on the elevation of 3790m.

This trek, however, is slightly more difficult than other 3 days treks. Regardless, it is a famous pilgrimage site which is suitable for people of all age groups.

The temple of Kalinchowk Bhagwati is on a top of a hill from Kuri village. The temple is of the Hindu goddess Kali. On day one you will drive to Charikot from Kathmandu which is about 150 km.

After reaching Charikot, it is about 5 to 6 hrs hike to Kuri. Kuri is a small settlement that also has lodges to accommodate the tourist. This is just below the Kalinchowk hill. Your destination is just an hour hike from Kuri.

Once you make it to Kuri, you will spend the overnight and the next day you will hike to the Kalinchowk peak. From the top of the hill, you will get to see the views of mountain ranges such as Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Gauri Shanker, etc.

After coming back down you will spend the overnight at Kuri. And on the last day, you will trek to Charikot and drive back to Kathmandu.

Overall this trek attracts a lot of local tourists and is a fascinating trek which you can do throughout the year.

Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Charikot and hike to Kuri (3450m)

Balthali Village Trek

Balthali village trek is one of the shortest and nearest treks from Kathmandu. It is only 40 km away from Kathmandu and lies at an elevation of 1600m.

If you are someone who loves nature, Balthali village is a place for you. It is a great place to witness Nepal’s countryside which is closest to the capital.

In this trek, you will go to Dhulikhel from Kathmandu on the first day. From there, you will take a 3 hours hike to head to Namo Buddha. Namo Buddha is a site that is important to the Buddhist community.

Another 3 hours hike from there will take you to the beautiful Balthali village. On the second day, you have the day to explore the village. This is a great little getaway from the busy and noisy city life. And will reward you with an incredible view of the Himalayas.

On the third day, you will make your return where you will head to Panauti. Panauti is an old Newari village where you can explore many historic temples. It is also one of the most traditional Newari villages that still remains untouched by modernity.

Ghandruk Trek

Ghandruk trek is a beautiful short hike in Nepal beyond Kathmandu in Pokhara. It is an easy option for quick trekking in Annapurna region. And is an ideal trek for people of all age groups due to its less risk of altitude sickness.

Some of the major highlights of the trek are glimpses of the western Himalayas and walking through terraced rice fields.

From Ghandruk you can get a close view of the snow-capped Himalayas such as Annapurna, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhare.

Moreover, this trek gives you a chance to experience the Gurung ethnic community of Nepal. The trek begins from Pokhara which is the city of lakes and a popular tourist destination.

On the first day, you will head to Phedi from Pokhara. After trekking for about 5 hours from there, you will reach Toalka where you will spend the night.

On day 2, you will trek for about 4 hours until you reach the Gurung village of Ghandruk and spend the overnight.

It is actually a shorter version of the 5 days Poon Hill trek where you will reach the elevation of 3210m in 3 days.

Poon Hill trek is famous for the magnificent views of the sunrise over the Himalayas. The journey to Poon Hill begins from Pokhara where you will drive to Nayapul from where the trek begins.

From Nayapul, you will trek to Tikhedhunga where you will spend the night. On the second day, you will start your trek early in the morning after breakfast.

Further, you will trek to Ghorepani from Tikhedhunga and pass through the Ulleri village. Here you will witness the simple lifestyle of the Magar community. Upon reaching Ghorepani, you will spend the night there.

The third day to the Poon Hill will give you an amazing panoramic view of Annapurna ranges, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, and Nilgiri, etc.

After spending some time witnessing nature at its best, you will head back to Nayapul. And drive back to Pokhara.
